Another week already? I think this is part three? Well, fuck. I feel like I’ve done nothing. Maybe because I haven’t.
Uni starts back up again next week, and to say that I’m excited is possibly pushing it just a bit. But, none of that! Let’s break down my week…book-style!
I think my last ‘this week in books’ post left it at my thoughts on Krystal Sutherland’s ‘A Semi-Definitive list of Worst Nightmares’ – which, if you haven’t read, please do so! it is an unforgettable book, let me tell you.
Ok, so after that, I literally jumped and ran to my bookshelf, because I have been waiting for the perfect moment to read ‘The Hate U Give’ by Angie Thomas, and last week was a perfect time. I was just ready, ya know? There are some days when certain books won’t do and others where your mood is specifically for a particular book. Well, that’s what happens to me, but I am not the poster girl of mental health so…
THUG was, is, incredible. I don’t think I have read a book that made me feel such an avalanche of emotions. It is a book that, in my opinion, should become a classic of modern literature. If you are right now reading this, it is your civic duty to read this book. I won’t go into too much detail because I am drafting a full-length review of this book currently, and will hopefully be posted in the next few weeks, so I’ll stop here. Just, I do need to say that this novel speaks for many and narrates many individual’s personal experiences of police brutality, racism and systemic oppression. This book, this story and these characters, is an act of speaking out, of trying to fight those who are the oppressors. Angie Thomas is an artist, and THUG is her masterpiece.
THUG took up a lot of my time, to be honest, not because it took me forever to read – no- but because I spent a day or two just reflecting, and being consumed with such anger at the hypocrisy and corruption of the system. So I read fanfiction because it was light as heck, and I’ve become EXO TRASH (KPOP ARMY WHERE YOU AT?) so that’s what I was doing until….
like around Thursday? so yesterday, my time, I began reading ‘Dangerous lies’ by Becca Fitzpatrick. Now. Let me just say something that may be a bit controversial for the ya fandom. But, yo, I loved ‘Hush Hush but hated the rest of the series. Seriously, could not stand it. I think I only read half of Crescendo or something and then I was like, fuck this shit, ain’t nobody got time for that. Basically, not the biggest fan of Fitzpatrick is what I’m trying to say. But, this book has a sort of Witness by Nora Roberts vibe, but for a more young adult audience, obviously. So, I’ll go into more detail in my post next week, because I have literally only read like 30 pages, and there’s been a lot of whining, so. ugh. we shall see.
What else? Oh, yea. Did I mention that I’m EXO trash? like, it’s a hoedown up in here. I have been fangirling so hard, holy shit. Like, hell yes I WILL CALL YOU MONSTER in the sheets TAKE ME SEHUN.
Too much information? I APOLOGISE BUT YOU CAN’T JUDGE MY LOVE OK. Well, that brings to the end of this post. I have no idea where this went, but I’m going with it.
Now, I’m going to go watch some EXO compilations on youtube because I have no life.
Till next time, my loves! Happy reading, y’all.
Allie
