books i’m planning to read in february: a tbr

hey hey friends! I know this tbr is coming late – but i have been extremely busy preparing for a presentation for my PhD! I am just constantly stressed and anxious at this stage.

Anyway – as I am writing this, it is the beginning of Feb and I am steadily working through my tbr.

Because I know that this year is going to be busy as I am going to be wearing a few different ‘hats’, I wanted to get into the habit of having three to four books that I need to read per month. Keep it small – and then I can mood read the rest of the month if I so choose.

This month, my tbr has slightly grown to include six books! But I have already read three!

Let’s get into it!

Let’s start with the books I need to read. That is, books that are a part of reading challenges and other committments. The first being The Pipwick Papers by Charles Dickens. If you don’t already know, I have decided to take part in the Dickens vs. Tolstoy: The Great Debate reading challenge that is being hosted by Emma from the booktube channel, *emmie* and Carolyn from the booktube channel, CarolynMarieReads.

The Pickwick Papers

Last month I read Childhood, Boyhood, Youth by Leo Tolstoy for this challenge and this month is it Dickens’ turn! At this stage, I have only read 30 pages but I did not expect it to be as funny as it is! And Dickens’ character descriptions are top tier.

The next book I have to read is Dark Emu by Bruce Pascoe. This is for a reading group that I am participating in at my university, called ‘Decolonising Theory and Practice in Education’. I have started reading this, and I am around 170ish pages through and it is brilliant. If you are Australian, you need to read this book ASAP.

I then want to read another classic for my Classics Community Challenge that I am doing again this year. For this month, I am going to read Perfume: the story of a murderer by Patrick Suskind. All I know is, this book is strange and slightly ridiculous.

EDIT: I have read this now. And it is ridiculous and so strange that I do not know how to articulate it.

In the middle of last month, I asked my twitter followers to choose a colour. Pink one.

I wanted to choose books on my tbr based on cover colour. So, the rest of the books on my tbr are pink (and my copy of Perfume is also pink so it counts towards this little fun challenge).

Catherine House by Elisabeth Thomas is on my list for this month. This book has been on my tbr ever since it came out so I am super ready to finally read this book and see once and for all how I feel about it as I know this book has caused such a disparity in likes to dislikes.

Annihilation by Jeff Vandermeer is book one in the ‘Southern Reach Trilogy’ and I purchased this book on a whim after I found it an an op shop in Preston. I don’t know much about this book, only that is it sci-fi. I cannot wait to read this one. This might be the book that I am most looking forward too.

The last book on my TBR is The House of the Spirits by Isabel Allende. Last year I finally read my first Allende book and I really enjoyed the way she weaved her story throughout generations and the themes of family, love, revenge and betrayal were expertly written. I am going into this book blind and I am going to keep it that way!

And that is it for this month’s TBR! Let me know if you have read any!!!!!

Until next time, happy reading!

All the love,

allie
