I completely forgot to annouce my TBR for the O.W.L’s Magical Readathon that I’m participating in this month! I decided to do my O.W.L’s so I can do my NEWTS next month! I’m pretty excited, but before I devle into my TBR, I should say that if you want more information about this readathon, you can check out the creator, G at Book Roast over on youtube! Now, let’s get started!

So, this readathon is based upon the O.W.L’s (Ordinary Wizarding Levels) from the Harry Potter series, and they are examinations which students take at Hogwarts. So there are twelve topics/subjects which also mean that there are also twelve prompts; however, you choose which wizarding career you would like, and you work to attain the subjects (or prompts) that you need to complete in order for it to go towards your career. So, in my case, I have chosen to be a Librarian, because HELL YEA. Therefore, I need to complete five specific subjects/prompts to complete the readathon:

• Ancient Runes
• Arithmancy
• Defese Against the Dark Arts
• History of Magic
• Transfiguration

So, as I’ve already read two books for this readathon, I’ll start with those and then get into the rest of my TBR!

For Arithmancy, the prompt was: Work written by more than one author. For this prompt, I read While You Were Reading by Ali Berg and Michelle Kalus. I have actually already written a review and you can find that here.

For History of Magic, the prompt was: published at least 10 years ago. I felt that it could not be a Harry Potter inspired readathon, without actually reading a Harry Potter book. So for the first time since 2007, I read Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone by J.K. Rowling. It was as magical as I remember it, but also more sad than I remembered, if that makes sense. I also didn’t realise how mean Ron and Harry were to Hermione! Hermione, for me, is my absolute favourite character. Also, does that mean that Albus Dumbledore knew that Harry was being abused by his aunty and uncle? Asking for a friend.

Okay, they are all the books I’ve read so far for this challenge! I also read The Surgeon by Tess Gerritsen, but that didn’t go towards any of the prompts for this readathon!

The Defence Against the Dark Arts had the prompt of: reducto: title stars with ‘r’. So I chose a book that has been on my TBR for what feels like years, but is more like 6 months, and that is Radio Silence by Alice Oseman. I can say with all honesty that I originally picked up this book because one of my favourite booktubers, paperbackdreams, absolutely loves it!

Next is for the subject of Ancient Runes, and the prompt is: retelling. So, you know how I’m also doing the ReadingRush (TBR COMING SOON) in like, a week? Well, I thought to double up on some books so that some books can be for both readathons! In this case, I am reading A Curse So Dark and Lonely by Brigid Kemmerer. I am intrigued to read this one so I am kind of excited. Also, Rowan, who is amazing and I adore them, recommended it to me as they loved it so I AM READY.

The last subject, Transfiguration, is also one that I’ll be reading for both readathons. The prompt is: sprayed edges or red cover. This book fulfils the sprayed edges aspect of this prompt and it is Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson and I AM SO EXCITED. I’ve only heard good things about this book so I can’t wait to get to it!

Currently, I just started reading Radio Silence by Alice Oseman, as I can’t really start the other two books as I have to wait for the ReadingRush readathon to begin! From the first 20 or so pages I have read so far, I am quite enjoying it. I feel like Oseman’s writing is both poetic but also extremely raw and real.
