i think i’m in a reading slump

so 2020 ain’t starting in the greatest way, folks. I THINK I’M IN A READING SLUMP?!

I AM ACTUALLY SO MAD AT MYSELF. I was on such a roll too – 2019 was the greatest freaking reading year ever, I think I can say with certainty. But I’m starting 2020 feeling so meh about every book I read. Not that I’ve read alot, but every book feels like a chore to pick up.

Reading shouldn’t be like that!!!!!!!!!

Every book I’ve read (that is the three books I’ve read) has been mediocre. 3 stars! the highest was 3.5 stars! WHAT IS HAPPENING??

I typically turn to books that I love and re-read them until I feel myself getting out of my funk; but even thinking about reading them just makes me want to throw them across the room. WHICH IS NOT NORMAL BEHAVIOUR, ALLIE!

So, instead I’ve been reading Star Trek fanfiction (don’t judge me) and trying to read The Silence of the Girls by Pat Barker which isn’t really working. I don’t know if it’s because of my reading slump or what, but this book is boring. So boring. Albeit, I am only 57 pages in but I’m just not interested. It’s not the book’s fault, obviously, it’s me.

IT’S ME.

What should I do?????? HELP ME FRIENDS! I think I just needed to rant about it. Ignore me.

But seriously, what do you do to get out of a reading slump? Let me know in the comments please and thank you.

Until next time, happy reading!

All the love,

Allie

  1. Oh no, not the dreaded reading slump!

See my go-to is always to re-read a favourite but you’ve already tried that. Reading fanfiction is a good shout, especially of a favourite book/series and then that makes me excited to re-read the books. I also stalk Goodreads and read reviews of books I want to read as this then hypes me up to read the book, unless the reviews are bad, then that just means the TBR gets culled haha! I wouldn’t force yourself to read if you’re not feeling it otherwise that’ll make it worse. I went through an awful slump from September to December and I ended up watching about five shows on Netflix from start to finish. Sometimes your brain just needs a break and to consume media in a different way.

Hopefully your reading slump ends soon!

  2. Step 1: stop being angry at yourself ๐Ÿ˜Š These things just happen itโ€™s no your fault. Optional step 2: take a short break from reading. Perhaps this is your brain telling you itโ€™s had too much. Step 3: get back in the groove by re-reading an old favourite. (Or Star Trek fanfic, sounds good too). Good luck!
