JANUARY TBR: Looking Ahead

I want to thank BeckieWrites for the tag! It’s taken me a while but here I am! I did this last month and it was super fun. So I thought I would try and do it every month if I can because I love doing this, but this year is going to be intense so we shall see! EVEN THOUGH IT’S LIKE MID-JAN WHOOPS. So, I believe that this tag was created by the awesome Devouring Books so we can all share our lists and find some other reads as well! Making it a tag is cool because it makes this kind of post more engaging and interaction-based, which is awesome. I’ll put the ‘rules’ of the tag at the end of the post. I’m also going to re-structure this post because if you saw BeckieWrites’ post, it is incredibly organised and it inspired me! So, let’s get on with this!

Books to Read…

More than Bones by Craig Singer is one that I am looking forward to reading this month. Although by the time this gets published I would have already finished reading it and would have posted my review, but as of this moment I have not! It is a story told from the perspective of a woman, a doctor -hell yea. It sounds like a combination of magical and slice-of-life? It’s Singer’s debut novel, so I am ready to sink my teeth into it.

The Invizibles by E.S. Carpenter sounds like a novel that is right up my alley. It centres on four high school students who are completely ready for summer break when that all literally goes up in smoke! It is quite mysterious when something ‘significant’ and possibly alien, lands on Earth’s surface, and these four teenagers are not the only ones who register its landing! I’ll leave the full synopsis that was given to me by the author, E.S. Carpenter, below:

Four high school teenagers prepare for an upcoming leisurely summer break when in an instant and with a thud, their plans radically change. But the four friends aren’t the only individuals receiving notification something significant has arrived. Anomalies also register at the government’s regional surveillance facility. They send operatives to investigate, and after an extended game of cat and mouse, eventually, capture the unique and invisible object.
Meanwhile, the four teenagers learn to use the gift the visitors unintentionally share and secretly accompany the vessel on its journey to its final scientific deconstruction destination. They act on their last opportunity and recapture the vessel, but the visitors need further assistance to leave.
The chess match intensifies as the heroes devise an escape plan and each side increases their efforts toward their opposing goal until what looks like an eventual victory by the greater resourced team, is suddenly overturned by a single fortunate event and our adolescent heroes celebrate what they believe is the final victory. But the losers aren’t conceding, and with the invisible replacement in hand, their increased desire to acquire the visitor’s secrets will lead to the next instalment of The Invizibles.

Dumplin’ by Julie Murphy should have been the first on my list! I’m actually super excited to read this book because I never have, and after my mum watched the movie on Netflix, she can’t stop talking about it! I’m actually reading it as part of the Diverse Diverse Bookclub for the month of January (so by the time this post is published, I should be halfway through Dumplin!). Dumplin’ follows the journey of Willowdean Dickson in the adventure of a lifetime: self-love and THE ULTIMATE SLAYAGE of anyone who dares to ever bring her down. It really is going to be a wonderful exploration in self-esteem, love and friendship; which I’m really looking forward to.

Thomas Wildus and the Book of Sorrows by J.M. Bergen kind of gives me Harry Potter vibes. It narrates the story of a young boy on the search for magic, whose life irrevocably changes when he gets his hands on The Book of Sorrows. I haven’t read a book which has a young boy as its main protagonist for a while, so I am intrigued with how I connect with the main character and how Bergen writes the cast of characters, whether diversity is something which they incorporate (and not in the token character way) and the overall storyline. I’m going to be completely honest; sometimes YA books, or teen as this would be, fail to connect with me in terms of their male protagonist. I’m hoping this is not the case, but it happened to me when I read Prodigy Prince by Natasha Sapienza.

Okay, I’ve been wanting to do this for a while, and I think January will be the perfect time for it. Last year, Archangel’s Prophecy by Nalini Singh was published! If you’ve known me for a while, you will know that I bloody freakin’ adore the Guildhunter series by Nalini Singh. My plan then is to re-read the entire series again so I can then be fully ready to read Archangel’s Prophecy. I have read the Guildhunter series, legitimately, like 5 times over the years, only because it’s such a fantastic series and I love it lots. So, on top of everything else, I want to also read like 11 books in the Guildhunter series. It can be done, right?

Oh god, hahaha.

EDIT 15/1/2019: As of today, I have read 5 books in the Guildhunter series!!!!

January Blog Tours

WOOHOO!! As I’m writing this, the month of January does not have many blog tours – more books that I need to review. However, there is one main tour which I will be taking part in!
