DECEMBER TBR: Looking Ahead

One month left of 2018. How did we get here? Hasn’t this year gone so incredibly quick but also dragging by day by day. I blame Trump. 

So, I thought that I would start this month by rounding up the books I want to read this December! I’m planning for next year, to be more organised and actually do this every month (fingers crossed) including an end-of-month wrap up, like I used to do before I had homework up to my ears. 

This December I have high hopes for my ability to read all the books that I want to. I’m going on a mini-vacation to Brisbane on Sunday and I am planning on reading for most of it!!!! Just to relax and read and have fun with my sister from another mister. I legitimately cannot wait!

1.First and foremost, Sen Rajah’s Milk of the Moon is on my December TBR even though I’m in the midst of reading it now, I am participating in the blog tour for it on December 5th! I will discuss this book more within my review that will be posted for that blog tour, but I would consider it a curated collection of poetry and narrations from the perspective of a young girl, who is a part of the author’s psyche. It really toes the line between artistic creativity and nonsense. It’s quite interesting, in a mind-boggling sort of way.

I’ve held off on reading it because I wanted to read it whilst I was in Brisbane, but Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J. Maas. Oh my lords in all the heavens, the Throne of Glass series has been such an incredible journey of love, empowerment and exceptional writing. Maas’ world-building and ability to create a network of conspiracy and secrecy legitimately astounds me, so I am both incredibly sad and incredibly excited to read the final instalment of this series. I am pretty sure I will end up writing a review for Kindgom of Ash so, I’ll ramble more about the series then!

Only because I’ve heard only good things about it, the Tatooist from Auschwitz is definitely one that I want to read this December. So, a close friend of mine asked me to read and review this book before she read it and that was close to a year ago – I’M SO SORRY LISA – so I bought it specifically to read and review for her. But I ended up losing it; legitimately had no idea where it went! I put it on my ‘to-read’ shelf in my room which is just on top of a cabinet where I house my pyjamas but it disappeared. It took me months to find it. I feel so stupid now; it fell behind my cabinet. It had been there for the better part of the entire year. I am an actual idiot. So yes, I want to read this book because it sounds fascinating and heart-wrenching.

Honestly, this should have been on the top of my list, but Archangel’s Prophecy by Nalini Singh is a must-read this December. If you know me at all, or have followed me long enough, you would know that both the Guildhunter series and the Psy-changeling/Trinity series are one my of all-time favourite series ever. The reason why I did not read Archangel’s Prophecy immediately after purchasing it, is only because I had commitments of reading other books to review for authors or publishers. I honestly cannot wait to read this book, and if you haven’t been introduced to the world of Elena and Raphael and the Seven, well, you need to. It’s where Angels, Archangels, Vampires and Hunters all come together within this magnificently crafted world of romance, terror and friendship. Nalini Singh is one of the greatest fiction writers and I have read literally everything by her. She is just that good.

I don’t believe I posted a review on my blog about it, but two years ago, I read Fight like a Girl by Clementine Ford and I absolutely adored it. It was a fierce mobilising call for women to speak out. It placed emphasis on the micro and not-so-micro aggressions women face every day just because of being a woman, and it honestly opened my eyes about the little ways we, as women, are demeaned every day either in the workplace or in our personal lives. Clementine Ford is an Australian journalist and writer, and she is also a Twitter maestro extraordinaire who does not hold back. This year, she published her second non-fiction novel called Boys will be boys. It explores the depths of toxic masculinity in Australian society and how the construction of masculine ideals actually formulates a “disturbingly limited and potentially dangerous idea of what it means to be a man” (GoodReads). It is more about education and how we, as a society, can ensure equality through deconstructing patriarchal of what it means to be a man and a woman.

I’m actually going to stop there, because I have too many books that I want to read, but reality is that I don’t want to create such a huge list that I feel stressed that I didn’t accomplish it. I think that 5 is a good number as a baseline, and any more that I read is just a plus!
